Let me tell ya, today’s trad wife is working way too hard
Secretly I’ve always wanted to be an actress, so I have prepared a little video just for you that allows me to indulge in this fantasy. It’s meant to be fun, so I hope you enjoy it. It’s part parody, part real recipe video. My character “Pat” is a composite of all the women I knew in the neighborhood I grew up in: opinionated, sassy, and certainly open to a drink and a smoke. While a few of them worked outside the home, most were “traditional” wives.
For best effect, please play in full-screen mode. This was my first attempt at a video and I didn’t know I should film it horizontally. (Amateur mistake, but that’s life.)
Written directions for this recipe are included below the video. Props to my podcast/video/media guru friend Jon Gay (JAGinDetroit.com) for transforming my mish mosh of a movie into a presentable video, and of course, my wonderful husband Jeff for additional technical help in getting this pulled together.
Ingredients:
2/3 cup evaporated milk, separated
14 ounces Kraft caramels (about 50)
One package German chocolate cake mix (Pillsbury seemed to work best)
¾ cup butter or margarine, melted
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 13×9 pan.
Melt caramels and 1/3 cup milk in heavy pan over low heat, stirring frequently. Set aside to cool slightly.
In large bowl, combine cake mix, 1/3 cup evaporated milk and butter. Press half of the mixture in the pan. Spread evenly. Batter will be sticky and thick. Be patient. Bake for 6 minutes.
Pour melted caramel over baked crust. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over caramel.
Divide remaining batter into about six sections and form each into a thin patty. Place on top of chips until surface is covered. There will be gaps. Use fingers to spread batter into a continuous top. Bake for 15-18 minutes.
Let cool, then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Cut into bars.
Enjoy!
Those are delicious brownies and Pat was hilarious!
They are wonderful brownies. I’m just sorry you never got to meet the real Pat.
I miss Pat…..Great video. I totally enjoyed the throw back recipe blog. The Old Fashioned and Candy cigarette totally made the show. Hope to see you soon.
Thanks! I like the roller in the hair myself. I miss Pat, too. When I started this blog I had no idea so much of it would be based on my mother lol.
